Background：

NGAL   is used as a biomarker of kidney injury.   Under normal conditions NGAL levels are low in urine and plasma but   rise sharply from basal levels in response to kidney injury to reach   diagnostic levels within a very short time - as much as 24 hours or more   before any significant rise in serum creatinine. It can also be used as an   early diagnosis for procedures such as chronic kidney disease, contrast   induced nephropathy, and kidney transplant. It is possible to measure NGAL in   serum or urine in the range of 25 to 5,000 ng/mL by current laboratory tests.
